46. Gout (Swelling in Knees and Ankles)
46. Gout (Swelling in Knees and Ankles)
The muscles all around the knee or ankles swell up, giving pain to the person.
This is said to be an acute form of arthritis. If pressed, it would feel spongy as if the tissues are filled with water.
When the body fluid turns acidic (hyperacidosis), arthritis and gout develop. The cure for these two is to nullify the acidity, and turn the body’s reaction to a mildly alkaline state.
Lime juice, added with sugar to change the sour taste, and orange juice taken on empty stomach, twice daily for four or five days should correct the problem.
Other alkaline foods such as sea-coconut (the fruits of Borassus flabellifers), coconut water, unfermented freshly collected toddy (called ‘pathaneer’ in Tamil) etc. are other good sources for curing this problem.
Long-term chronic sufferers may need to take lime juice for more than a week. The details are given under arthritis.
The knee pain and associated swelling can occur in both the obese as well as the Skeletal or Thin people.
To prevent these problems, one should avoid overly acidifying the body at a rapid speed. A slow change over from alkalinity to acidity does not give rise this problem.
