9. Bad Breath (Halitosis)
.
Bad breath that comes from the decomposing food particles from the teeth does not emit a serious odour. Gentle brushing would eliminate this problem.
.
The smell emitted by a decomposing gum can be quite repulsive. This problem can be easily prevented than cured. Normal, day-to-day teeth care method should be adequate to prevent such a gum decay.
.
Excretory wastes, essentially the calcium excesses, from within the body get exuded while we are asleep by night. The nostrils, ear canals, eyes, tongue, naval, anus, all the sweat pores, etc. form the outlets for these secretions. They emit bad odour.
.
The intensity of the odour depends upon the quantity of the excretory secretions.
.
In the obese, owing to their habitual under-urination, substantial quantities of the plaque would form a thick layer over the tongue. This would emit strong foul odour.
.
While brushing the teeth, the tongue should be gently scraped using a ‘tongue-cleaner’. This would take care of the day’s problem. Therefore, this has to be practised as a daily ritual.
.
Total eradication of the problem may be impossible. However, increased water consumption and liberal urination, coupled with an avoidance of calcium-enriched foods, would reduce the plaque formation and related foul odour to a great extent.
.
Bad breath of a more serious type comes from within the gastro-intestinal area.
.
. When food is not well digested, and when it gets fermented in the stomach, some amount of bad odour would develop.
.
Yet more serious kind of foul odour that resembles that of a ‘decomposing dead rat’ occurs when a person suffers from chronic constipation.
.
When a person does not defecate daily, if it occurs once in two or three days or more, we call it acute constipation. The faecal matter in this case will be hard with cracks. If this happens, the mouth odour may not be much offensive.
.
In the second type, called chronic constipation, the person may defecate twice, thrice or more number of times daily, and the faecal matter tends to be slimy and shapeless.
.
When this happens, the bad breath will contain the smell of the dead rat, and will be highly repulsive.
.
Brushing the teeth or scraping the tongue may not be of any help. The only way is to take strong laxatives and cleanse the intestine to get rid of the adhering decomposed organic matter from the intestinal folding (between the villi).
After the cleansing, one should avoid eating food made of highly refined flour materials.
.
….Powdered milk, biscuits, most of the over-ripe fruits (e.g., papaya) etc. tend to create such chronic constipations.
.
Chronic constipation is a common occurrence among the obese and the diabetics. This is so because of their ‘bad eating habit’. The correct method of eating may be seen in a different chapter in this book.
.
Apart from the above, one should also do the Breathing Exercise as described in my book on obesity. A condensed version of the same may be found elsewhere in this book.

10. Black Tongue
.
A proper diagnosis of the causes for this problem has not been made so far. In other words, not many are concerned about this symptom.
.
Literature suggests that this could be due to some dense hair that grows on the surface of the tongue. This theory does not appeal to our senses at all.
.
I have traced this to occur more often in the obese people, especially in those who have developed a calf calcification (cH) of 80% or more (see Palaniappan 1998, for more details on this).
.
Owing to under-urination, several unwanted heavy metals such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, copper, and zinc excesses tend to accumulate in the tongue of this group of people, giving rise to black colouration.
.
In this group of people, the penis glans in men and labia minora in women too tend to contain this black colour.
.
Among the thin persons who urinate liberally, those who consume foods and drinks cooked (or kept) in aluminium or copper pots and pans, tend to develop this kind of black tongue, and coloured penis glans or labia majora.
.
Anyone who takes tablets or capsules containing syn-thetic vitamins and minerals as food supplements for even a few months are bound to develop black tongue and black colouration over their penis glans or labia minora.
.
This is so because, while modern-day nutritionists believe that these are essential food supplements for the well-being of people, the body appears to receive them as toxic excesses, and tends to reject them through the skin, urination, plaque, smegma, vaginal discharges, and the like*.
.
( * If the food we eat contains the right nutrients in proper quantities, the faeces we defecate would be yellowish in colour.
.
When one consumes synthetic food supplements of vitamins and minerals, the body rejects them as toxic substances, and the faeces turns dark brown or blackish.
.
If this continues, the tongue and penis glans or labia minora would soon develop black colouration.)
.
Increased water consumption, liberal urination, avoidance of cheap aluminium and copper cookware, abstinence from consuming preserved foods and drinks, etc. will totally remove the black colouration present in the tongue within three to six months.
.
However, it takes slightly longer but varying durations when it comes to clearing them in the pubic regions in men and women.
.
Such recoveries are common among the Group Therapy participants.
